Can I bring my Teffilin?

When I bring Tefillin or other religious artefacts, what happens?
We understand that participants may wish to bring Tefillin or other religious artefacts with them on their DofE expedition.
- Bronze & Silver: JLGB leaders will be able to look after participants’ Tefillin during the day while they are walking. The Tefillin can be handed to a leader before the group sets off and will be returned to the participant when they arrive at the campsite.
- Gold: Participants can ask JLGB leaders to look after their Tefillin. However, the Telfillin will be dropped off at the campsite in the evening. if they would like the leaders to collect the Tefillin the next morning, it must be left at the campsite in the agreed location. Leaders will collect it when they are able to do so during the day. Participants should therefore plan accordingly and ensure they have what they need before setting off.
If participants don't want to do this, they will need to carry their Tefillin during the expedition.
Please note that, in line with our Terms and Conditions:
“It must be noted that security of personal possessions can never be guaranteed whilst participants are absent from their tents or rooms and any item of value that, for some reason, is considered essential should be handed to the Expedition Coordinator or other authorised leader for safe-keeping but the JLGB does not accept responsibility should any cash or valuables suffer loss or damage.”
We recommend that participants only bring religious items that are necessary for the expedition and that any arrangements for safekeeping are discussed with the JLGB team in advance.
