Frequently Asked Question

Why are rucksacks handed out at the start of the expedition and not before?

Last Updated about a month ago

Rucksacks are handed out at the start of the expedition rather than in advance for a practical reason. In the past, when rucksacks were given out beforehand, we found that participants sometimes left important items at home, which could affect the whole group during the expedition.

Handing out the rucksacks at the start also allows our team to support you while you pack. We can help you organise your equipment efficiently, make sure everything you need is packed, and ensure that the weight is distributed as appropriately as possible.

Packing your rucksack is also part of your expedition assessment. Your assessor will observe how you pack and organise your equipment, including how you distribute the weight and prepare your rucksack for the expedition.

This helps you start your expedition properly prepared, with all the equipment you need and a well-organised rucksack, while also giving you the opportunity to demonstrate the skills you have learnt during your training.
