Frequently Asked Question

Are we allowed to take mobile phones?

Last Updated about a month ago

No. Mobile phones are not permitted on JLGB DofE expeditions.

The expedition is designed to give you an opportunity to be independent, self-reliant and work as a team in an environment that may be different from what you are used to.

  • Each group will have one emergency mobile phone, which must be provided by the group. This phone will be sealed and is only to be used in an emergency.
  • All other mobile phones should either be left at home or handed in at the start of the expedition when the group is asked to do so.
  • Participants should not have access to their personal phones during the expedition.

This is an important part of the DofE expedition experience and helps you to focus on navigation, teamwork, problem-solving and becoming more self-reliant.

If you are found in possession of a mobile phone during the expedition, this may jeopardise your successful completion of the Expedition section and could also affect the rest of your group.
