Frequently Asked Question

Security and the safety of our participants are a primary concern for us when planning and running every DofE expedition. We have a number of measures in place to support participants throughout the expedition.

• A DofE Expedition Coordinator will always be within range and available to provide support if needed.
• Groups are provided with a GPS tracker, allowing the JLGB team to monitor their location throughout the expedition.
• Each group has an emergency mobile phone for use if assistance is required.
• Volunteers are positioned at checkpoints along the expedition routes to provide additional support.
• At least two fully DBS-checked members of staff will stay at the campsite overnight, including at least one male and one female member of staff.
• At the end of each day, participants will be made aware of where staff are located and how to contact them. Staff will remain available throughout the night should a participant need to speak to someone or if an issue arises.
• We use Scout and Guide campsites, as well as campsites that JLGB has used previously and knows to be suitable, safe and secure.

These arrangements allow participants to enjoy the independence and adventure of their DofE expedition while knowing that experienced JLGB staff and volunteers are nearby and available to support them when needed.
