The safety and wellbeing of our participants is always our highest priority. DofE expeditions are designed to be adventurous and, particularly at Gold, may take place in more remote environments. As with any outdoor activity, there are some risks involved, but our experienced team takes every reasonable step to manage these risks and keep participants safe.

JLGB has years of experience running DofE expeditions, and our procedures, experienced leaders and thorough training all help us provide a safe and well-supported expedition experience.

• GPS trackers are provided for every group, allowing our team to monitor the groups and locate them if necessary.
• JLGB leaders and adult volunteers are positioned along Bronze and Silver expedition routes to provide support and assistance.
• Participants receive thorough training before their Qualifying Expedition, including navigation, safety and basic first aid.
• Our expedition teams have procedures in place to respond to changing weather conditions, illness, injury or other concerns.

The adventurous nature of the expedition is an important part of the DofE experience. It gives participants the opportunity to develop independence, teamwork, resilience and confidence, while being supported by an experienced JLGB team.
