Frequently Asked Question

What is the time scale to complete my Gold Award?

Last Updated 7 days ago

The Gold Award has longer minimum timescales than Bronze and Silver. You can complete your sections one at a time or alongside each other, but you must complete all the required sections before your 25th birthday.

For Gold, you will need to complete:

  • Volunteering: 12 months
  • Skills: 6 or 12 months
  • Physical: 6 or 12 months
  • Residential: 5 days and 4 nights

You must complete 12 months of Volunteering, with one of your Skills or Physical sections also completed for 12 months and the other for 6 months.

If you have not completed your Silver Award, you will need to complete an additional 6 months in one of your 12-month sections, making that section 18 months.

Your Residential section involves taking part in a shared activity away from home for 5 days and 4 nights. This can be completed at any point during your Gold Award, as long as you meet the DofE requirements.

If you have questions about your Volunteering section, evolve, JLGB’s volunteering initiative, can help you find a suitable placement and support you in completing this section of your DofE.
