You are required to wear walking boots on your DofE expedition for your own safety and protection.
Walking shoes or trainers do not provide the same level of ankle support, grip and protection needed when walking over uneven or rugged ground, particularly while carrying a rucksack.
Walking boots provide several important benefits:
Wearing suitable walking boots is a DofE requirement and, like many of the expedition rules, it is there to help keep you safe.
Remember: Make sure you wear your walking boots in before your expedition. New boots can be uncomfortable if worn for the first time on an expedition!
